A business is an organization, and an organization that is not just a collection of people, of actions, nor a profit making machine benefiting the founder, manager, owner or shareholder. It is an emergent entity, a living thing in itself which develops its own way of knowing and navigating the world, and its own ideas of what is good and bad. We speak of cognitive and moral emergence. And we argue that reducing the firm to a box or a parasite or a party does not help to see how firms adapt and could contribute to green transitions in society.
